South Surrey author aims to inspire, offer tips

A South Surrey life coach and author will host a launch next weekend for her book on shared parenting.

Karen Kristjanson’s Co-Parenting from the Inside Out: Voices of Moms and Dads is the result of six years’ research and 42 interviews.

Through real-life co-parenting stories, it aims to “inspire separated parents and help them understand co-parenting better, offering practical tips and tools that directly benefit families,” according to a news release.

Kristjanson, a mother of two, told Peace Arch News last fall that the book came about through her own experiences raising her sons in a joint-custody arrangement. At the time – she was divorced in 1991 – there were no how-to books to help guide her journey, she said.

“I felt like I had no road maps… quite isolated,” Kristjanson told PAN.

Co-Parenting from the Inside Out features 35 stories gleaned from interviews with parents in a variety of circumstances – from navigating co-parenting through high-conflict legal battles, to collaborative arrangements, where special-needs children are involved, and co-parenting as lesbians.

The book launch is set for 3-4:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Good Day Sunshine Café, 2950 King George Blvd.
