AN international parenting expert is coming to Toowoomba to share his secrets.
With his help, parents are about to become better at turning off technology tantrums, managing misbehaviour and putting in place rules and routines at home that really work.
International parenting expert Professor Matt Sanders will be in Toowoomba tomorrow to let local parents in on some parenting secrets that are scientifically proven to make family life calmer, less stressful and more fun.
The founder of the renowned Triple P – Positive Parenting Program will present a free 90-minute seminar at Toowoomba City Library tomorrow at 7pm for parents and carers of children aged up to 12.
Prof Sanders is in town because Toowoomba families are the lucky beneficiaries of a University of Queensland research project called Every Family, which offer parents free access to the Triple P program.
The project is running in parallel with the State Government’s population-wide roll-out of free Triple P.
Seminar host, Mayor Paul Antonio, said the health and wellbeing of families was a top priority for Toowoomba Regional Council.
“This project gives Toowoomba parents the chance to access free support through a highly regarded program like Triple P, and is an opportunity for our community to strengthen its foundations,” Cr Antonio said.
Prof Sanders said parents who consistently used evidence-based positive parenting strategies like Triple P ended up having less arguments, better relationships and more fun with their kids.
“Children raised in a positive parenting environment do better at school, make friends more easily and are less likely to have emotional and behavioural problems as they age,” Prof Sanders said.
“Parents who do Triple P also report lower levels of stress and depression, so there are plenty of good reasons why it’s important for parents to understand what works with kids, and what doesn’t.”
Triple P is an evidence-based parenting program proven to work in many families, across many cultures and in multiple situations.
Parents can attend Triple P seminars, group programs and individual sessions or do it online.
