A mum’s Elf on the Shelf hack is being hailed a parenting win by busy mums and dads.

While families across the globe are busy searching for different ideas for their little visitors this Christmas, mum Courtney Boles is being praised for hers.

She decided to put a bright yellow cast around Buddy’s ‘broken’ leg – and even signed it by Santa and his reindeers Rudolph and Dasher.

Sharing the photo on Facebook, she wrote: “Poor Buddy fell and broke his leg, he has strict orders from Santa not to move for two weeks! Parenting WIN!!”

And she’s not the only one to think she’s winning at this Elf on the Shelf thing .

With parents spending every day of December coming up with new positions and locations for their festive guests, many have been praising Courtney’s ingenuity.

After we shared the photo on our Manchester Family Facebook page , parents said they would be copying the idea.

Emma Underwood said: “There you go, don’t need to worry about moving it if you do this.”

And Lisa Hanson said: “This is definitely my fave.”

Courtney’s photo first went viral when she posted it back in 2015. It’s since been shared more than 40k times and is quickly going viral again as people countdown to Christmas 2017.

Adele Twist sent in this photo of the elves that have been ‘entertaining’ her boys, aged seven and four

When it was first shared she was criticised by some people for being un-festive and lazy by not taking part in the tradition properly.

But she defended her idea saying her son, who has autism, struggles to follow the rules of not touching the elf – which limited her options for Buddy.

And she told Good Housekeeping that she was going away for her daughter’s football tournament while her other kids stayed with grandparents, so it was easier than making up an excuse of why Buddy couldn’t go too.

So before Manchester’s elves are all in need of some TLC and crutches, let’s take a look at some of the ideas you’ve come up with so far – and keep sharing them with us on our Manchester Family Facebook page …
