DENISON, Texas — Several families grew a little larger on Wednesday as Grayson County joined in on National Adoption Day celebrations.

“You know this is Grayson, it’s National Adoption Day, and it’s an opportunity for CPS to adopt kids and bring some exposure to the program,” said Grayson County Judge Bill Magers.

Magers, who was adopted himself, is a huge supporter of the event.

“It’s a great day,” he said.

Eight kids found new families on Wednesday.

“They’re moving from a not such good place to a great, loving family,” Magers said.

Amanda and Jason Brown are one of those loving families.

“We’ve had him in our home for over a year now, and today we finally got him as our son,” Amanda Brown said. “We’ve been wanting him for a while. It’s kind of been a prayer we’ve had for a couple years now, and it finally came true. He’s ours!”

As for what these new parents would tell other potential adopters?

“Do it!” Amanda Brown said. “It’s scary. It isn’t all smiles. There’s a lot of heartache to it, but it’s worth it. The second they latch onto you all the fears go away,” they said.
